The app
What do I need to get started?
An iPad with USB-C, the app from the App Store and an account in the web app. For the best photos, connect a Canon or Sony over USB-C, and to print, a DNP via AirPrint. Without a camera the booth uses the iPad camera.
Does the booth work without internet?
Yes. The iPad fetches the event in advance and keeps it. During the event everything works without internet: taking photos, printing and AirDrop. Uploads to the gallery and to your Drive or Dropbox wait in a queue and go online by themselves once there is a connection. Guests who scan the QR code see their photos as soon as the iPad has been able to upload them.
Which cameras work?
On the iPad, the booth works with Canon EOS R and Sony cameras over USB-C, with live view. Set a Sony to USB mode PC Remote. Not sure about your model? Just email us. The iPad camera always works, as an alternative or as a backup.
Which printers can I use?
A DNP via AirPrint: with a DNP WCM+ module, or with a Mac that has printer sharing turned on. You print 4×6 portrait or landscape, or 2×6 strips, two per 4×6 with a cut. If your DNP takes other paper, such as 5×7 or 6×8, that works too.
Can I use my own logo and branding?
Your accent colour, yes, in every tier: it colours the web app, the iPad and the galleries. Basis and Pro show the BoothBuddy logo. With Luxe, your own logo takes its place in the web app, on the iPad, in galleries and in email, and each event can have its own logo. For each event you choose the start screen and the photo behind it. With Pro you can also upload your own overlay design for the strip.
In which languages does it work?
The web app and the iPad's operator screens are in English, Dutch, French and Spanish. You choose in Settings. The guest screens (start screen, form, gallery and messages) are chosen per event, in English, Dutch, French, Spanish or German.
Where are the photos stored?
In your own Google Drive or Dropbox, in one main folder with a folder per event, and on the iPad itself. The galleries load them from your Drive or Dropbox, and guests can download them one by one or all at once. We only keep a small preview, and a photo until it has reached you.
Does it run on Windows or Linux?
Yes. The web app and the booth also run on a Windows or Linux computer, with a webcam or a Canon or Sony in webcam mode, and they print through the computer's printer. Tethered RAW+JPEG capture is iPad only. One account, one package: Pro or Luxe counts on a computer too, bought in the web app or on the App Store. A computer runs free for the first month; after that you buy Basis for computers once for €25 in the web app, through Stripe.
Download for Windows or Linux What else is in the web app?
An overview of what needs your attention, one list of your guests and a logbook of who changed what. Per event you set up the gallery, with an access code if you like, and your client gets a report with the numbers and the most opened photos. You write your own words for email and SMS, and a webhook connects it all to Zapier, Make or your own system. Pro adds your own stickers, Luxe adds opening hours.
Does the app use AI?
No. No AI filters, no AI backgrounds, no face recognition and no credits. What the camera sees ends up on the strip.
Pricing
What does it cost in total?
The app costs €25, once, on the App Store. Want more? Pro adds €15 (€40 in total) and Luxe another €20 (€60 in total), also one-time. On top of that you must pay €7 a month excl. VAT for the servers the app runs on and their upkeep. The first month is free and you can cancel any month. Nothing else: no fees per event, per photo or per print.
Is this a subscription?
Partly, and it's better you know up front. You buy the app and the upgrades once and they stay yours, even on a new iPad with the same Apple ID. But to use them you also pay €7 a month excl. VAT, because the app runs on our servers and those need upkeep. There is no term: you can cancel any month.
What if I stop paying?
The app stays yours, but it can no longer use the servers: you can't design events in the web app and the iPad won't fetch new events. Photos your iPads are still uploading are always accepted: a guest's photo is never lost. Whatever is in your Drive or Dropbox stays there. Start the monthly payment again and you carry on.
Can I skip a few quiet months?
Yes. The monthly payment has no term: you can cancel any month, also ahead of time for a month you choose. No projects for the next two months? Skip those months in the web app and you pay nothing for them. During that time your account is view-only: galleries and downloads keep working and photos from your iPads still come in, but you can't edit and the iPad can't fetch new events. After that your subscription carries on by itself.
Do prices include VAT?
Hosting at €7 a month is excluding VAT; you pay through Stripe. App Store prices include VAT, as always with Apple.
How many iPads can I use?
As many as you like, in every tier. Each booth runs on its own iPad, paired with the same account, and you can run as many events as you like.
Privacy
What about GDPR and guests' photos?
As the rental business, you are the controller for your guests' photos and data. We only process them on your behalf, to run the web app and the galleries. That is set out in our processor agreement. You can delete sessions and their photos at any time in the web app.
Does this website set cookies?
No. No analytics, no ads, no third-party scripts. That is why you don't see a cookie banner.
